Creating innovative bio-convergent technologies for better human life

IBM-KAIST Bio-Computing Reasearch Center

The center was launched in December 2004 to conduct research activities using IBM supercomputers (roughly equal to 5 million US dollars) donated by IBM as a SUR Award (Shared University Research) in May, 2002. The center aims to investigate fundamental bio-computing technologies utilizing bio-principles and bio-mechanisms, and seeks to develop system technologies for bio-information processing. Researchers from various departments in KAIST including BioSystems, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Physics, and Biological Science, as well as IBM Life Sciences, collaborate on several projects including bio-encyclopedia, bio-data mining, protein structure analysis, and metabolic circuit analysis.
