There Haemostasis describes the balance in vascular system, including various chemistries in blood vessel networks. Four processes, vasculature, platelets, coagulation, and fibrinolysis, represent the haemostasis, which is well maintained through many components involved in each process in concert. The endogenous and exogenous changes or events will perturb haemostasis by affecting the levels and activities of proteins. The endogenous factors are ages, cancers, diabetes, genetic mutations, obesity, hypertension, inflammations, etc. The exogenous factors are stresses, travels, pathogens (bacteria, prion, and virus), chemicals, medicines, and radiations. Traditionally, various markers have been studies by measuring the antigen levels immunogenically using antibodies in the laboratory and point of care test settings. Many proteases among the proteins in haemostasis have been studied and identified as diagnosis and prognosis markers, and therapeutic targets. Because many proteases are directly involved in the pathogenesis of the diseases, caused by endogenous and exogenous factors. Measuring protease activities would provide better understanding of the diseases, however the measurements have been carried out in the laboratory setting by chromogenic and fluorogenic substrates. The electrochemical detections of protease activities using Protease Biosensor Chip system would open up the new paradigm of studying various proteases from a personal to pharmaceutical levels. This could be achieved through many collaborative efforts from bioinformatics, biochemistry, MEMS, computer programming, electronics, and medical communities.
