5. Abstract

Many social and economic decisions we make in real-life situations, such as buying a stock, involve uncertain consequences. As the saying goes “Better the devil you know than the devil you don't”, people tend to prefer an alternative where the probability distribution of the outcomes is known over one where the probabilities are unknown. Our recent neuroimaging studies examined the psychological and neural mechanisms of decision making under risk and ambiguity. Our findings may shed lights on how decisions are formed and modulated in the face of uncertainty.
