4. 제목: Dynamics and Control in Microfluidic Systems for Biology

            and Nanotechnology

5. Abastract:

System dynamics and control is no longer a technology limited to vehicles, airplanes, and robots, but throughtransdisciplinary expansions is now playing key roles in addressing high impact challenges from biology to nanotechnology. Dynamic control approaches, when combined with microfluidic platforms that bridge a wide range of applications, provide a unique toolset to open new avenues in engineering complex biological systems and multifunctional nanomaterials. Furthermore, the extension ofmicrofluidic platforms up to the scale of millifluidics allows for increased versatility to manipulate 3D biochemical profiles for diverse applications including flow cytometry, developmental biology, and nanomanufacturing. In this talk, I will present microfluidic control approaches that (i) allow investigation of multicellular dynamics in a Xenopusembryonic tissue in space and time and (ii) enable large-scale controlled syntheses of therapeutic and diagnosticnanoparticles with high reproducibility. Integrative engineering approaches to combine bionanotechnology andmicrofluidic control systems are enabling us to developbiomimetic chips that reconstitute organ-level functions for regenerative medicine and to build integrated platforms for manufacturing of multifunctional nanomaterials with optimized physicochemical properties for translation ofnanomedicines from the lab to the clinic.
